When Dreams Become Divination
God tells us that He will speak to people through dreams and visions. However, when Christians begin to seek the supernatural over seeking God, they can open themselves up to the spirit realm, and not every spirit is going to be the spirit of God. Of course, the lost can also open themselves up to the demonic.
When a dream or vision is from God, the Holy Spirit will give the interpretation. There’s no guessing. There’s no decoding of symbols. It’s a word from God dropped into our spirit by the Holy Spirit.
Divination: the practice of seeking knowledge of the future or the unknown by supernatural means.
People can get into the spirit without the help of the Holy Spirit, even Christians, and get away from what is of God and get into what is demonic. Christians can knowingly or unknowingly work with demons. Christians may be sincere but they can be sincerely wrong.
It’s very dangerous to open oneself up to the demonic. If you crave the supernatural, you aren’t necessarily wrong. You are made for the spirit realm. However, seeking God and seeking something paranormal are two different things. If you are seeking the paranormal, the enemy will accommodate you. He will disguise himself to deceive you. Often associated with this deception is confusion, anxiety, and fear. There is emotional distress, instability, and unrest.
When a word is from God, even if it has to do with judgment, there is a peace is knowing God is in control. There is a joy. There is love. There is unity.
There can also be times when a person can tap into the things of the spirit, and it can be tainted with error or something from a demon. It can be difficult to discern what is flesh, what is God, and what could even be demonic.
These people need discernment of spirits, a help from the Holy Spirit, to show them what is of God and what is not.
16 Now it happened, as we went to prayer, that a certain slave girl possessed with a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much profit by fortune-telling. 17 This girl followed Paul and us, and cried out, saying, “These men are the servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us the way of salvation.” 18 And this she did for many days.
But Paul, greatly [d]annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.” And he came out that very hour. 19 But when her masters saw that their hope of profit was gone, they seized Paul and Silas and dragged them into the marketplace to the authorities.
IT’S NOTHING NEW
Don’t be ignorant of Satan’s devices. False prophets have always existed among God’s people.
We first see divination mentioned in the first book of the Bible (Genesis 44:5). There is indeed nothing new under the sun. If it existed then, surely it can exist now.
And the Lord said to me, “The prophets prophesy lies in My name. I have not sent them, commanded them, nor spoken to them; they prophesy to you a false vision, divination, a worthless thing, and the deceit of their heart.
SIGN OF THE TIMES
Divination has always been around. It’s even mentioned in the first book of the Bible! However, the Bible tells us that false prophets are going to increase in the last days.
WHAT TO DO
· Be on guard. Watch out for the demonic.
· Stay away from decoding, symbolism, or trying to interpret.
· Test everything with Scripture. The Holy Spirit doesn’t disagree with God’s Word.
· Ask God for discernment. Then lean on the Holy Spirit. He won’t steer you wrong.
· Ask yourself – do I have peace in my heart?
· If it is the enemy, resist him and he will flee in terror.
