“Those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing.” Psalm 34:10
A seeker is a person who is reliant on the one they seek. If you were self-sufficient, doing it all on your own, then there would be no need to seek anything or anyone else. A seeker realizes who God is and goes after Him as the source of our life and our love. What is a good thing? A good thing is something created and intended for us by a good God – resources, provision, knowledge, skills, employment, courage, anointing, healing, strength, opportunity, self-control, kindness, love, patience, faith, and the like. When we seek a relationship with God and His kingdom, in faith, we find Him, and we find the good things He alone can provide (Matthew 6:33, 7:7-11).
King David was a shepherd before he was a king. He had sheep that relied upon him to lead, feed, protect, and care for them. David wrote in Psalm 23:1, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” When we are surrender to God’s lordship, He cares for us. We will not want or lack. We will not have a deficiency, an absence of something necessary, fall short of what is intended, or be missing something.
God shows us His love and power by sustaining us according to His ability. An example of this is seen when Moses led God’s people through a desert wilderness, where even though they were restricted in their own resources and ability to produce, they were able to come out of that season saying they had “lacked nothing (Deuteronomy 2:7, Nehemiah 9:21).” God gave them daily bread, where each day they were in dependence on God’s hand to feed them.
Paul refers to the desert experience and compares it to our dependency on God by giving to His kingdom in II Corinthians 8:15. If you give to supply the needs of ministry, God will supply your needs. “He who gathered much had nothing left over, and he who gathered little had no lack.” Again in Philippians 4:19 Paul writes, “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” In context, Paul was writing about giving to the work of the ministry. He wrote that he wasn’t seeking the gift for himself, but he knew the spiritual principle of the blessing the giver would receive for funding the Gospel. Paul knew that when we seek God and the advancement of His kingdom, God would supernatural give good things to the giver.
Application: Matthew 6:33 says “Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you.” Don’t live by your own strength. Trust in God and give for the purpose of His kingdom, and He will move by His strength and ability in your situation.
