1 Chronicles 11-13
In our reading today we have David's first attempt to bring the Ark of God to Jerusalem (1 Chronicles 13:1-14). In the attempt a man dies (1 Chronicles 13:9, 10). David was stumped and couldn’t figure out what he did wrong. The Bible says he consulted with every leader, but he did not consult with the priests and Levites. When the Ark was constructed God gave specific instructions that four rings would be located in the corners for two gold covered staves to be inserted for the Ark to be carried by four men (Exodus 25:12-14). But not just any men, they had to be of the Kohath branch of Levites (Numbers 3:27-31). It was because of this ignorance of Biblical instruction that a man lost his life. As believers we need to do service unto the Lord according to Scripture. Good intentions don’t count.
In our reading today we have the healing of the man born blind and his healing by Jesus. We also see more indication of the intense pressure the religious leaders in Israel put on Jews that believed in him. The Jewish leaders had come to agreement that if any confessed jesus as Christ they would be put out of the synagogue (John 9:22). If you remember Nicodemus, a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin, the Jewish court came to Jesus under the cover of darkness because of fear (John 3:1, 2). Saints, the day is coming and is already in many parts of the world where to confess Christ is to invite persecution and even death. We need to pray that if that day comes to us we will be ready.
