Judges 18, 19
In our reading today and carried over from Judges 17 is a guy who invented his own religion and created his own priesthood, his own images. The guy he consecrated to be his priest was happy with the arrangement, getting paid by the year with all food and clothing (Judges 17:10-13). Until a better offer came his way. In Chapter 18 that better offer comes his way, in the form of marauders from the tribe of Dan who offer him to be their priest. Wouldn’t he rather be a priest and father to a whole tribe than just one man. It would be funny if it weren't so ungodly, but the reply in Scripture is “the priest’s heart was glad (Judges 18:19, 20). Saints, we in the New Covenant are made priests to God (1 Peter 2:5 & 9). Not the made up kind like we find here in Judges, but the God ordained kind that God hears when we pray and we hear his voice when he speaks to us. Praise God for the privilege we have been given.
In our reading today we have the story of Mary the sister of Martha and Lazarus whose home Jesus visited often. In the reading of Luke 10:38-42 we see Martha being concerned that Mary wouldn’t help her with the serving. Mary on the other hand chose to sit at Jesus feet and here him teach. When Martha complained to Jesus about it, one of the things he responded to Martha was “one thing is needful: and mary has chosen the good part which shall not be taken from her.” Later in the final week of the life of Christ, this same Mary would receive a revelation from God about the soon death of Jesus and purposed to anoint his body for burial (Matthew 26:6-13), a revelation none of his disciples got. For her faithfulness of hearing the voice of God Jesus said the telling of this story about her would be a memorial to her. Praise God! Choose the good part Saints!
