Luke 12:35-59

Be ready! Prepare yourself, and prepare for Christ’s coming! In verse 35, it says to gird the waist. When running, people would have to pull up their robes and tuck them into their belts so that their legs were free to move. Keeping the lamps burning is another term for being prepared for Him as well as preparing others for His coming.

In verses 49-53, Jesus says the there is a divide between people who have faith in Him and those who don’t. When there is division between you and people you love, recognize that sometimes that division is more about their issues with God rather than you.

In verses 54-56, Jesus talks about discernment. The only way we can discern is with the help of the Spirit of God, and that only comes through humility.

In verses 57-59, speaks of making peace with your adversary. We also are to settle our hearts with God before Christ comes.

1 Samuel 4-6

In chapter 4, we read many events taking place surrounding the ark and it’s capture. It’s not by coincidence, but judgement from the Lord. When the wife of Phinehas, gives birth, she names the baby Ichabod, meaning, “The glory has departed.” We see that God’s glory can depart, we know it also can come, it can lesson and increase, depending on the situation. That tells me WE HAVE A PART in the measure of the glory of God we experience.

THE GLORY OF GOD IS POWERFUL. It was powerful under the old covenant and it is powerful under the new covenant. Because the Philistines had taken the ark away from Israel, the hand of God was against them. Many died and others developed tumors. The Philistines were anxious to rid themselves of the ark because of the judgment they were bringing upon themselves. As new testament believers, should we respect the glory of God as well. With honor for God, we should live our life in trust and obedience to our Father who is almighty and merciful.
